One in-depth guide per document — what it is, when you need one, the UAE-specific fields (TRN, 5% VAT, FTA rules) and how to generate one in minutes on DocMak.
A UAE tax invoice must display the words 'Tax Invoice', a unique sequential number, date of issue and date of supply, supplier name, address and TRN, customer name and TRN (for supplies over AED 10,000), a description of goods or services, unit price, quantity, discount, taxable amount, VAT rate and amount, and gross total in AED.
Fatoora is Saudi Arabia's e-invoicing initiative. Phase 1 requires every invoice to include a QR code and specific mandatory fields; Phase 2 requires large taxpayers to integrate directly with the ZATCA platform. Simplified tax invoices apply to B2C sales, standard tax invoices apply to B2B.
A quotation is a non-binding price offer. A proforma invoice is a committed price document used for pre-payment, customs pre-clearance or purchase-order raising. A tax invoice is the VAT-triggering document issued after the supply. Each has a different role in the GCC sales cycle.
A salary certificate confirms current employment and monthly salary — used for bank loans, visa renewals and rentals. An experience certificate is issued after separation to confirm tenure, role and conduct — used for career moves and attestation. Both are commonly required in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and across the GCC.
GCC companies use shareholder resolutions to formally record decisions taken by the owners of the business — appointing or removing directors, changing capital, approving dividends, changing bank signatories, opening branches or dissolving the company. Under UAE Commercial Companies Law and equivalent GCC laws, most of these decisions must be minuted.
VAT rates differ across the GCC: UAE 5%, Saudi 15%, Bahrain 10%, Oman 5%. Qatar and Kuwait have not yet activated VAT. Every VAT-registered business must issue tax invoices, keep records for five years, and file periodic returns with the local tax authority.
