GCC VAT rates & how to calculate — FAQs
How do I calculate 5% VAT in the UAE?+
To add 5% VAT: multiply the net amount by 1.05. To remove 5% VAT from a gross amount: divide by 1.05 to get net, then subtract net from gross to get the VAT portion. For AED 1,000 net, VAT is AED 50 and gross is AED 1,050. Use the calculator above and switch between 'Add VAT' and 'Remove VAT' modes.
What is the VAT rate in Saudi Arabia (ZATCA)?+
Saudi Arabia's standard VAT rate is 15% (raised from 5% on 1 July 2020) — administered by ZATCA (Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority). Some supplies are zero-rated (exports, international transport) or exempt (residential rent, financial services). Set the rate to 15 in the calculator above and enter your SAR amount.
What is the VAT rate in Bahrain (NBR)?+
Bahrain's standard VAT rate is 10% (raised from 5% on 1 January 2022) — administered by the National Bureau for Revenue (NBR). Basic food, healthcare and education are typically zero-rated. Set the rate to 10 in the calculator and enter your BHD amount.
What is the VAT rate in Oman (OTA)?+

Do Qatar and Kuwait have VAT?+
Not yet as of 2025. Qatar and Kuwait have signed the GCC VAT framework but have not implemented VAT. Rates remain 0%; supplies are outside the VAT scope. Watch for announcements from Qatar's GTA and Kuwait's Ministry of Finance.
How do I calculate reverse VAT (VAT-inclusive to VAT-exclusive)?+
Divide the gross amount by (1 + rate/100). For UAE 5%: net = gross ÷ 1.05. For Saudi 15%: net = gross ÷ 1.15. For Bahrain 10%: net = gross ÷ 1.10. The VAT portion is gross − net. Use the 'Remove VAT' mode in the calculator above.
