Standard versus simplified tax invoices in Saudi Arabia

A standard tax invoice is issued for B2B and B2G supplies and must identify the buyer, including the buyer VAT number where registered. A simplified tax invoice is issued for B2C supplies and must carry a QR code. DocMak switches between the two formats so you are not maintaining two templates.

  • Standard invoice: full buyer identification and address
  • Simplified invoice: QR code mandatory, buyer details optional
  • Both: seller name, address and VAT registration number
  • Both: invoice date, unique sequential number, line descriptions and amounts
  • Both: taxable amount, 15% VAT amount and total including VAT in SAR

Arabic is the required invoice language

Saudi VAT rules require invoices to be issued in Arabic. Additional languages may be shown alongside, but Arabic cannot be omitted. DocMak renders right-to-left Arabic with correctly shaped numerals and keeps an optional English column for foreign buyers and internal reporting.

The Fatoora QR code

Simplified tax invoices must include a QR code encoding, at minimum, seller name, VAT registration number, invoice timestamp, invoice total with VAT and the VAT amount, in Base64 TLV form. DocMak builds the payload from the invoice data automatically so you do not have to encode it by hand.
