MOHRE-ready employment contracts for the UAE and wider GCC
A well-drafted employment contract is the foundation of every UAE and GCC HR file. Under Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, every UAE employer must issue a written, signed contract covering job title, salary breakdown, working hours, leave entitlement, probation, notice period and termination grounds. Saudi employers meet the same requirement through the Qiwa platform, and Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and Kuwait all mandate written contracts registered with the labour ministry.
DocMak's Employment Contract Maker gives founders, HR managers and PROs a template built around these regional requirements — with slots for MOHRE / Qiwa registration references, bilingual letterhead, allowances that flow through to gratuity, and Article 44 termination wording. Frequently asked questions
Is a written employment contract mandatory in the UAE?+
Yes — UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 requires every employer to issue a written employment contract registered with MOHRE. Free-zone employers (DMCC, DAFZA, JAFZA, ADGM, DIFC) issue the free-zone equivalent.
What must a UAE employment contract include?+
Names of employer and employee, job title, start date, place of work, working hours, basic salary, allowances (housing, transport), leave entitlement, probation, notice period and termination grounds.
How long can the probation period be?+
Up to 6 months under UAE Decree-Law 33 of 2021. During probation, either party may terminate on 14 days' written notice; the employee returning home needs a 14-day notice, and an employee moving to a new UAE employer needs 1 month.
Does this template work outside the UAE?+
The clauses are drafted for UAE / GCC use and are broadly compatible with Saudi (HRSD / Qiwa), Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and Kuwait labour laws. Always confirm local specifics such as end-of-service formula and working hour caps.
