A scope of work is the part of a contract that gets read when something goes wrong. Its value comes from precision: named deliverables, measurable acceptance criteria, explicit exclusions and a written change-control route. This maker gives you those sections as editable text with a deliverables table beside them, and prints a clean A4 document you can attach to an agreement.
Contractors, fit-out firms, facilities providers, IT integrators and consultancies in the UAE and GCC use it as the annexe that turns a priced proposal into an enforceable brief.
- Deliverables table with acceptance criteria and due dates
- Separate included-services and exclusions sections
- Client and supplier responsibility split
- Change-control wording so variations are priced before work starts
- Signature blocks and branded PDF export for contract annexes
How to write a scope of work
- 1
Describe the work in plain terms
Say what will be done, where and to what standard, in language a non-technical approver can check.
- 2
List deliverables and acceptance criteria
For each deliverable, state what proves it is complete — a test result, a signed report, a demonstration.
- 3
Write the exclusions
Exclusions prevent more disputes than inclusions. Name the work, materials and approvals that are not yours.
- 4
Add responsibilities and change control
Split duties between you and the client, then state how a change is requested, priced and approved.
Frequently asked questions
What is a scope of work?+
A scope of work is the document that defines exactly what a supplier will deliver: the services included, the deliverables, the standards applied, the acceptance criteria, what is excluded and how changes are handled. It is normally an annexe to a service agreement or contract.
Is a scope of work the same as a statement of work?+
In practice the terms are used interchangeably, and both are abbreviated SOW. Statement of work is more common in IT and government contracting; scope of work is more common in construction, fit-out and facilities work across the Gulf.
Why do exclusions matter so much?+
Because most cost disputes are about work nobody priced. Writing down that permits, civil works, hardware supply, out-of-hours labour or third-party licences are excluded gives you a clear basis for a variation instead of an argument.
How do acceptance criteria work?+
Each deliverable gets an objective test — a passed inspection, a signed report, a measured result. Once the criterion is met the deliverable is accepted and, if your payment terms are milestone-based, becomes invoiceable.
